The 2017 vintage of Ornellaia Bianco was harvested on the 7th of August, the earliest to date. "2017 was a hot and dry year but there was just a little rain at the right time, comments Heinz, which prevented the vines from becoming dehydrated and which produced this surprisingly fresh and lively wine. There are some attractive waxy lemon and green aromas and flavors of crunchy green apple, spice and green pepper. I very much like the surprisingly attractive balance between creamy texture, crunchy green flavors, and bright acidity and the medium-long finish.

The 2017 Ornellaia Bianco shows a bit less nerviness than it has in the past. Then again, this is 2017. Orchard fruit, white flowers and tropical overtones add lovely shades of nuance. In 2017, the Bianco also has a bit of Viognier, which no doubt adds richness. In previous years, the Bianco has been more Bordeaux-like. The 2017 is decidedly more exotic in spirit.

Tuscany

Tuscany, a renowned wine region in central Italy, is famous for its high-quality Sangiovese-based wines. Key styles include Chianti, with vibrant acidity and red fruit flavours; Chianti Classico, known for greater depth; and Brunello di Montalcino, prized for its rich, full-bodied character and ageing potential. Tuscany also produces prestigious Super Tuscan wines that blend Sangiovese with international varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon. Top producers are Antinori, for Tignanello; Castello di Ama, for Chianti Classico; and Biondi-Santi, for Brunello.
